De oprichter van yalla.nl begon op 15-jarige leeftijd met het begeleiden van excursies en een jaar later organiseerde hij voor zijn klasgenoten op de middelbare school een reis naar een weeshuis in Roemenië. Hij wist al dat het helpen van anderen en het organiseren van reizen zijn passie was. In 1998 zette hij voor het eerst voet in Marokko en werd meteen verliefd op de Arabische cultuur.
